ABOUT
My Role:
Sole UI/UX Designer
SafeWalks was established in January 2021 in response to brutal attacks against multiple women at the Morgan Ave
L- Train Subway Station.
The local community took a stand and decided to help protect fellow community members that have felt unsafe by offering a service that provides walking buddies to community members walking from local train stations.
Duration:
February 26-February 28, 2021
Deliverables:
High Fidelity Screens, Prototype
Tools:
Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator

THE PROBLEM
The creators of Safewalks are currently using a website and google forms to schedule walks for users. In order to improve the effectiveness and accessibility for users, Safewalks creators have started a GoFundMe to help with the cost of app development. Our team decided to help by creating a prototype that can be used for the app they envision.

To create an easy-to-use, accessible mobile app that can connect end-users with Safewalkers in real-time to provide safe passage to the user's walking destination.
THE GOAL

THE SOLUTION
Using the Safewalks app users can create an account, schedule walks, and interact with walkers with real-time messaging. The app also features in-app calling, and the ability to add buddies with other users who may share a similar daily commute. Users are also able to use the interactive map in order to locate other walkers that are closer to their location if they change train routes.

I wanted to embrace Safewalk's existing brand colors, so the color palette was sourced from the organization's website and Instagram page.

Logo Design

UI Elements
I was inspired by Safewalk's mission statement of community. I felt that it was important to incorporate a sense of safety, and trustworthiness in the design of the logo.

Photography
PLACES-I chose these images because they are reflective of the type of environment that, Safewalks is currently located in or could be located in. Texturally the images represent an urban landscape full of people and cement pavements that are reflective of the daily grind of busy New Yorkers.

PEOPLE- It was very important to show diverse images of safety. Often women aren’t seen as capable protectors and African American men are seen as a threat. Using diverse images is reflective of the various individuals that volunteer to be Safewalkers while dismantling outdated stereotypes about people based on their appearance.
